Meet Steve Roe ~ Oaknoll's Executive Director...


Steve has worked at Oaknoll for the past 17 years. During that time, he was CFO/Administrator, arranging financing and helping lead the successful completion of several projects to the Oaknoll campus (the 2015 Spring Street Addition, the 2006 George Street Addition, a new Health Center completed in 2004, and the certification of the Assisted Living program in 2000). Steve was appointed Executive Director on September 2, 2016.

Steve’s succession to Executive Director was part of Oaknoll’s strategic plan for many years. He continues to uphold the standard of excellence for which Oaknoll is known. “Through the years, Oaknoll has developed an outstanding reputation within the Iowa City community. I’m excited to build on that tradition as we look to serve even more people who want to call Oaknoll home”, Steve says.

Steve’s primary responsibilities at Oaknoll are to lead an experienced and committed management team. The leaders and employees have combined for 600+ years of service to the Oaknoll community. That longevity speaks volumes about the work environment. Steve says, “My job is to help create the environment in which our staff can provide exceptional care to our residents. Every single one of our employees is critical to the successful delivery of service.” One of Steve’s passions at work includes training staff (and residents) about Oaknoll’s CREATE culture. The culture is articulated in the corporate values of Caring, Respect, Enthusiasm, Awareness, Teamwork, and Encouragement (CREATE).

Steve graduated from the University of Iowa with a degree in finance and worked 12 years for a major financial services company, holding several progressively responsible positions. Following his return to Iowa City, he joined the Oaknoll staff in 1999 as Director of Finance. Steve earned his MBA, with an emphasis in Health Care, from St. Ambrose University and earned his license as a Nursing Home Administrator in 2006. He has held the title of Administrator/CFO for the last ten years before his recent appointment to Executive Director. Steve was awarded the “Excellence in Leadership” award in 2009 from the state association to which Oaknoll belongs. He also enjoys playing on the Oaknoll staff softball team, “The Swinging Oaks.” Steve and his wife April, have two children: Tony, who is the Transportation Coordinator at Oaknoll, and Alli, who is in her second year of medical school at Des Moines University.
