About Us
What
is the history of Oaknoll?
In
1966 Oaknoll opened its doors to the Iowa City community with a dream
of providing a safe living environment for retired residents with
the guarantee of nursing care when needed. In the beginning Oaknoll
offered one and two bedroom apartments (ranging in size from 380 to
670 square feet) with a bath and kitchenette and a 48 bed health center
licensed for skilled and intermediate care.

In 1983 the Benton Street building added 28 two and three bedroom
apartments (ranging in size from 865 to 1,200 square feet) to the
existing structure

In 1993 it was time to renovate the health center
and add nine more two and three bedroom apartments (ranging in size
from 600 to 1,200 square feet). This expansion is the Oakcrest addition.
In 1998 Oaknoll opened the new Benton Street East
addition on its campus. This addition offers deluxe two bedroom apartment
homes (ranging in size from 960 to 1,100 square feet).
In
the fall of 2000 the Oaknoll Assisted Living area welcomed its first
residents. Twenty-one apartments (ranging in size from 379 to 750
square feet) are certified by the Department Inspection and Appeals
for residents who can maintain a somewhat independent lifestyle but
may need extra assistance with bathing, dressing, taking medicine,
or maintaining daily routines. With the LifeCare guarantee residents
who live in an Assisted Living apartment continue to pay the same
monthly fee while benefiting from additional services and care to
help them remain as independent as possible.

As we have grown we have been able to offer more
choices. We now have over thirty different floor plans from which
to choose.
In 2004 we moved into the new Health Center building.
We continue to be licensed for skilled and intermediate nursing care
to address the physical needs of our residents within a home-like
atmosphere. Here, our residents enjoy the companionship of family,
friends and visitors, of pets and children, and of our staff. Spontaneous
activity and planned programs make days interesting. A sunny courtyard
provides a place to garden, hear birds, and delight in the fragrances
of the out-of-doors. With transportation provided resident can be
accompanied to doctor appointments or enjoy a drive to see the autumn
foliage or stop for an ice cream cone. Once again, the LifeCare guarantee
gives our residents the assurance of the care they need without an
escalating cost attached.
The
George Street addition opened in November 2006 and reflects the active
lifestyles of our residents who know the benefits of living in a LifeCare
Community. Whether you prefer a 950 or 1,080 square foot unit with
or without a screened-in porch, a 1,335 square foot unit with a sunroom,
or a most spacious 1,672 square foot unit with a screened-in porch—Oaknoll
has an apartment for you.
This addition features a hair solon and spa, a movie theater, and
an Internet Café with patio seating.
The spacious Oak Dining Room is located in this addition. The Oak
Room gives the residents the feel of dining out while staying close
to home. There are two private dining rooms that are available for
more intimate dinner parties.
As a resident of our community you will also have access to our warm
water lap pool/water aerobics area with adjoining locker rooms and
our state-of-the-art Wellness Center. We have a certified wellness
instructor who can set up a program for residents on strength training
machines, treadmills and bicycles—all key to being the healthiest
you can be.
The George Street apartments and amenities generate much excitement
but the most important feature remains the same at Oaknoll—LifeCare.
The decision to come to Oaknoll and invest in LifeCare simplifies
your retirement years. If the need arises for assisted living or nursing
care services, you have them on hand. No need to shop around at a
time when decisions are complicated by the stress of an illness. Choosing
our continuing care retirement community is a wise decision. LifeCare
is the difference.
